The Khazanah Megatrends Forum will be entering its fourth annual installment in 2008. It will continue to be a platform for the gathering of Malaysian corporate leaders, policy makers, think tanks and practitioners from the public and private sectors as well as civil society. It is well attended by about 400-500 senior leaders. It coincides with Khazanah’s year-end planning cycle and typically addresses topical matters of interest.

Khazanah will be hosting the “Khazanah Megatrends Forum ("KMF") 2008 on 20-21 October 2008 at the Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur.

This year the forum is expected to be especially interesting with the unfolding global financial crisis that will likely have a deep and lasting impact at several levels including how we do business.

This event is by invitation only.

If you are keen to attend, register your interest using this online form.

Khazanah will contact you by 18th October if there are available seats

The forum is organized into four main heads and this year, we have gathered together an outstanding line-up of speakers and session chairs consisting :

  • Macro & Markets - a particularly fertile subject this year, given the turmoil in the various global markets and indeed as the second and third order effects unfold on the global economy. The speakers include the Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia Dato' Ooi Sang Kuang and economists Simon Ogus and Brad Bourland. Datuk Ranjit Singh of the Securities Commission Malaysia will chair the session.

  • Leadership & Culture - last year, the focus was on Execution, whereas this year we have decided to add organizational culture to the discussions of leadership with a focus on leading in turbulent times. Confirmed speakers are Prof. George Kohlrieser of IMD Switzerland, Dato’ Seri Abdul Wahid Omar, CEO of Maybank, Dato' Sri Idris Jala, CEO of Malaysia Airlines, Tharuma Rajah a principal of the Hay Group; and chaired by Datuk Zarinah Anwar, the Chairman of the Securities Commission Malaysia.

  • Competitiveness & Development - while the session on Macro & Markets looks at the short run state of the markets, this section looks at the more medium and long run factors driving competitiveness and development. Speakers this year are Prof. Danny Quah, Head of Economics at the London School of Economics, Indermit Gill of the World Bank, P.Gunasegaram, Managing Editor of The Star and Dr. Nungsari Radhi, Khazanah's Executive Director and Head of Research and Strategy. Chairing will be Datuk Dr. Zainal Aznam, ISIS Fellow and a member of the National Economic Council.

  • Firms & Transformation - this session aims to bring together the earlier discussions into what all this means at the firm level and how firms will need to respond on its transformation journey and how business models may need to adjust with these changes. Panelists includes: Dato' Nazir Razak of CIMB, Koh Boon Hwe, Chairman of DBS Bank Singapore, Iqbal Khan, founder CEO of HSBC Amanah and a pioneer in Islamic Finance and Jonathan Davidson of McKinsey & Co.
We are also privileged to have two outstanding luncheon keynote speakers who are in great demand at this time; Stephen Roach of Morgan Stanley on 20th October, and Datuk Seri Panglima Andrew Sheng on 21st October.
